Vision and Mission Statement

The Vassall Centre at the end of the disabled persons rainbow?

Vision

Our vision is "barrier-free environments for everyone"

Mission

Our mission is to provide, at the Vassall Centre, an environment without the barriers that disable people.

Objectives

  1. Provide affordable, barrier-free accommodation with long-term security for voluntary organisations and accessible conference facilities for people in Bristol, surrounding areas and beyond. Create a barrier-free environment that will make it possible for disabled people to work for and to lead voluntary organisations which provide services for disabled people.

  2. Establish the highest standards of accessibility, conducive to equality of opportunity, inclusiveness and independence for all disabled people with different impairments. This goes far beyond compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (2005).

  3. Positively influence national policy and practices concerning equality for disabled people by demonstrating how barrier-free workspace benefits disabled people.

  4. Develop a national template for barrier-free workspaces to benefit disabled people and voluntary organisations. The Trust will demonstrate templates for different types of projects such as transformation of existing buildings, new-build schemes and multi-storey units.

Ethos

The Vassall Centre Trust believes that:

  • All environments should be barrier-free
  • Disabled people should lead and be fully involved in the design, creation and testing of barrier-free environments
  • Barrier-free environments provide disabled people with independance, greater opportunities for employment and volunteering, the chance to work on equal terms with others and the means of fulfilling their potential.
