Vision and Mission Statement
Vision
Our vision is "barrier-free environments for everyone"
Mission
Our mission is to create, demonstrate and champion inclusive and empowering workplaces, particularly for disabled people.
Aims
- Provide suitable, affordable, barrier-free accommodation offering long-term security for voluntary organisations working in the field of disability, and barrier-free conference facilities for people from Bristol, surrounding areas and beyond.
- Ensure all aspects of what the centre provides are empowering to disabled people and their equality and rights individually and collectively.
- Support disabled people in leading, managing, working and volunteering in voluntary organisations providing services for disabled people in the centre and UK-wide.
- Use the centre as a national showcase to demonstrate and promote the ethos and access standards which will enable equality for disabled people in workplaces throughout the UK.
- Champion higher standards of accessibility UK-wide conducive to equality of opportunity, inclusion, employment, empowerment and independence, through campaigning and dissemination of experience and learning.
Ethos
The Vassall Centre Trust believes that:
- All environments should be barrier-free
- Disabled people should lead and be fully involved in the design, creation and testing of barrier-free environments
- Barrier-free environments provide disabled people with independance, greater opportunities for employment and volunteering, the chance to work on equal terms with others and the means of fulfilling their potential.
The main activities of the Trust are to provide fully accessible office/workspace for charities primarily working in the disability field. To complement this provision, our philosophy is that charities for disabled people should also be run by disabled people and we encourage our tenants to employ disabled people whenever possible. |
