Roger BerryRoger is Vice Chair of the Vassall Centre Trust with responsibility for HR matters. He is also a trustee of Rights UK and previously served as a trustee of Disability Alliance, the Disability Law Service and the Snowdon Award Scheme and as a Board Member of Tribune Publications. Roger served as MP for Kingswood from 1992 until 2010, during which time he campaigned extensivelyon equality issues and, in particular, for rights for disabled people. He was Secretary and Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Disability Group and introduced a number of bills on disability issues, including the Civil Rights (Disabled Persons) Bill, which led to the first Disability Discrimination Act. Previously he was a lecturer in Economics at the Universities of Bristol, Papua New Guinea and Sussex. Roger lives locally in Fishponds and represented the area on the former Avon County Council for 12 years. He served as a Deputy Leader of the Council, Leader of the Labour Group, Chair of Finance and Chair of Equal Opportunities. Roger is a former Ambassador for the Vassall Centre Trust and was involved in the campaign, successfully concluded in 1998, to persuade the government to sell the site to VCT at significantly below its market value. |
